Graphic Design

Project | 02

Personal Branding: I used Adobe Illustrator to create a personal branding suite (logo, letterhead, envelope, and business card) in black and white, and in color.  The colors I used create a triad using both cool and warm colors.

Project | 01

Color Theory:  I created a color swatch chart starting with Red (0 degrees) and changing the hue by 10 degrees for each subsequent square.  Next I created a colorwheel composition, using each of the 36 hues at least once.  Finally, I colored a portrait of my dog and me using different color schemes for various sections of the photograph.

Hierarchy:  Using Adobe InDesign, I designed a suite of posters advertising a series of Art exhibitions and lectures. These demonstrated principals of hierarchical text, font size, and (in some cases) color to alert the viewer to the most important information.

Project | Color Theory

This project was designed to demonstrate an understanding of color theory.  I  created an illusion of movement within a 7”x7” square using basic geometric shapes: square, rectangle, and circles. The composition used different color schemes listed below:

1) Achromatic use of 7 different values of white and black including white and black for a total of nine colors.

2) Basic Primary Colors: using one pair of basic colors for the shapes and the third for the background. The color of lines changes gradually from one color to another.

3) Complementary Colors:  I used 5 different values of the chroma in the same composition.

4) Analogous Colors with a warm relationship.

5) Analogous Colors with a cool relationship.

Project | Pictograms

This project is intended to promote the use of combined basic shapes to convey information. A family of pictograms must be visually similar-they must work together and look like they belong together. Maintaining continuity is key to making an effective visual information system for pictograms, signs, navigation, and logos.  This family of pictograms  depicts the disciplines within the School of Art, including: Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Intermedia, Jewelry and Metal Arts, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture

Project | Anniversary Poster

This project was the product of a freelance job request.  Chet and Joanne Woodman's 60th wedding anniversary was being celebrated by their children, who hired me to create a memory poster, on which their wedding photo was the centerpiece. I researched cultural and social events that were contemporaneous with their wedding.  The project was printed at 24" X 48" on glossy paper and mounted on foam board.
